Should be interesting. I've had several of the new dishes (in development) and they are fun. Not sure what the whole experience will be like. As Daniel Humm knows, I'm a traditionalist, so we shall see. I'm keeping an open mind.

I ate their a few week ago and had the clambake. My wife and I really enjoyed it. Were going back in a few weeks so I guess we'll be some of the last diners with the current menu.

Hmmm. I'm supposed to go the second week in Sept. I went the first week they changed to the current format and it was not nearly as good as it subsequently became after they dialed it in. Not sure I want to spend 1K for dinner while they are still beta testing the new concept.

Was there last night and it was phenomenal as always. They've been doing different variations on the clambake for some time. Last night was a corn/tomato soup, as opposed to the new england clam chowder of "old". I can't wait to try the new menu.

3 people. $600 for food, plus drinks, a bottle of Chablis or other white Burg, corkage on whatever I bring, tax, and tip...

Seems somewhat similar to what Achatz did with Next. However, Achatz took less of a risk by leaving Alinea what it was and opening an entirely new restaurant. This is an interesting decision by EMP.

Lunch is quite a bit cheaper, if you can go then... great place, in any case. Hope the new format works out.

PS Anybody had the carrot tartare? I'm curious what it is--don't think it's been on the menu the times we've gone.

I think I read with the new format lunch and dinner will now be the same price.

That's quite different then "quite a bit cheaper"?

So maybe I'm a little slow(maybe?) but what's the big change. Isn't this just a menu change. How will it differ in the future ? I'm obviously missing something.

Ron, the point is that right now lunch is quite a bit cheaper (come to think of it, that may hold only during the week, I'm not sure about the w/e) but under the new format it may not be.

And they seem to be placing a greater emphasis on showmanship.

Not my thing (esp. at a minimum $195 before tax, tip and beverage) but I wish them well with it.
Ripe fruit isn't necessarily a flaw.
