Last man in, at least with a mag there might be something left once we take our pours. Maybe

If we are doing mags, I can bring 93 Gaja Sori San Lorenzo in mag (though if we all bring mags, that will be a lot of wine). Any other mags I have are probably too young. Otherwise, I have a lot more options in 750. Are we sticking to any particular time period or other theme?

Josh, this is a Nebbiolo table, so the Gaja doesn't qualify. But if you bring it, I will still drink it! [snort.gif]

Mags are not required, but this is a nice event for mags. If the wine is really good, you will find no shortage of people at other tables happy to try it. Of course, then you will have to try the best wines at their table, so do not plan to drive after this!

Ken,

I assume that was a dig at Gaja or am I missing something? No problem as I have plenty of older traditional barolo/barbaresco that I can bring - I just don't have any older mags of nebbiolo. I'll take a look at what I have and post some options.

It was just a little joke because that wine likely contains about 10% Barbera.

I didn't know that. Interesting. Is that true of all the Gaja "cru" bottlings? I do tend to prefer Gaja's basic Barbaresco over the other bottlings. Anyway, I'm happy to bring that or find some other older bottles to bring.

Yes. That's why he stopped calling them Barbaresco (or Barolo) once they started genetic testing for the DOCG. Still, he makes beautiful wines, and I would be happy to drink that if you bring it.

I'm just bringing mags because I have a few and this seems like the right venue for them. I might have to bring a back up 750 just in case anyway, so bring on the 750s!

Thanks Ken. Always learning here. Anyway, I'll plan to bring the Gaja since this is as good a venue as any to open it and I've been looking forward to trying it (I agree that he does make beautiful wines, and I particularly like the older vintages), and I'll probably also bring a fun older bottle, too.

Any room at that Nebbolio table, or do I have to start another one?

I was thinking about bringing several vintages of produttori, Rocche dei Manzonni or Clerico Ginestra Ciabot Mentin. I can bring others as well, but this is where I have the most depth (and some mags)

WOW, the list of wines at this table are quite impressive. I will have to go down to the cellar and poke around and see what I have that is worthy of a seat at the table.

Will report back . . . .

Carrie - you mentioned in the PDH thread that you are +1, but not on here - you show as one spot. I think there is one spot available on this table, so you better get your +1 on it if you have one!

In the hope that there is room at the table, I looked through my cellar list...

Here are the mags that I have:

Domenico Clerico Ginestra Ciabot Mentin 1998
Conterno Cascina Francia 2001
Cavallotto Vigna San Giuseppe Riserva Bricco Boschis 2001
Conterno Cascina Francia 2004
Giuseppe e Figlio Mascarello Monprivato 2004
Podere Rocche dei Manzoni (Valentino) Big'd Big 2004
Podere Rocche dei Manzoni (Valentino) Vigna Capella di Santo Stefano 2004
Podere Rocche dei Manzoni (Valentino) Vigna d'la Roul 2004

Most of the rest are 750mls, unfortunately.

If we went the 750ml route, I thought it either might be fun to compare either across vineyards for the same year/producer (I have depth going back to 1995 for Rocche dei Manzoni and Produtorri across 2004), or to compare the same producer/vineyard across vintages (for me I could source Rocche dei Manzoni's, Domenico Clerico Ginestra Ciabot Mentin's, Domenico Clerico Pajana's, Tenuta Pianpolvere Bussia Soprano Riserva). Luckily, I have multiple bottles of each of these.

I also have a few 3Ls, so I could go that route as well.

I sure hope a spot opens for me+1 [worship.gif]

Since there is only one spot open, maybe I will pawn my wife off on another table. [rofl.gif]

On second thought, since this is my first Beserkersfest, and since I don't want it to be my last, that may not be such a good idea! [shock.gif]

Chambers Street just had a great collection of some old Piedmonts. I picked up some wines, including a few mags.

If space opens up, I could bring the following mags:
Ceretto 1974 Barolo Zonchetta della Brunate
Oddero 1989 Barolo Vigna Rionda

...or I could bring any of the other wines mentioned earlier. (Though most are still infants, with the exceptions of the 750s)

The only issue is whether Rebecca will be able to come. She has a trial starting today and does not yet know what Friday will bring. Leo has given us an extension until Thursday to figure out what's going on. I will bring the Monfortino and the Vietti regardless since the Monfortino at age 40 is always a question mark. By the way - I had a 2000 Oberto last night. Not bad for a cheap Barolo. Hardly the modern fruit bomb people have claimed. Leather, creosote, herbs and truffles with a bit of cherry but not a lot of fruit.

I probably have a replacement for Rebecca if she can't make it. One of my partners reminded me today that he had asked me months ago to let him know about one of thesse wine shindigs because he was interested. I told him about this one in case Rebecca can't come. I then printed out post #1 and told him that the price of admission was $100 for the dinner plus a nebbiolo comparable to the bottles listed on Post #1. I also accidentally circled the 1970 Monfortino. More later.

How many people do you have now? I don't see Jay+1on your list or me+1 on the wait list. Does it make sense to start a new Nebbolio table?
