"Ho hum" and "Had higher hopes" parallels mediocrity and melancholy in my book. Twenty eight years is pretty risky for a Napa Valley Cab.

I mistakenly opened a bottle of 2016 Farella Vineyard recently, rather than the intended 2013. No regrets however, I thought I was drinking Chateau Lafite!

Actually I didn't recall incorrectly, as I was offered a 30% industry discount! The 2001 was spectacular on nearly every occasion. Over the past decade its become too big and ripe for my liking and if now at $235, that only solidifies my decision to stop buying.

In 2017 all the fruit at Corison was harvested a week before Oct 1, that is two full weeks before the fires! At Dunn all the fruit was in. Go get the 2011 Dunn Howell Mountain. It appears to be available on the K&L website for $99. That is a steal for a wine of this caliber.

No It wasn't Mayacamas. It was a Cabernet from a producer on the trail, who's name I cannot mention because they are a good family.

$300 is too much. $200 would get things rolling again. Some of the very best Napa Cabs are priced between $100-$200.

I’ll never forget how great this wine was in the mid nineties, at the hands of Helen Turley. If they would have maintained customer loyalty, and y’all know what that entails, then they wouldn’t be in this mess that they are in today.

Oxidation on day two is something I do occasionally encounter with ripe Napa cabs.

I considered Léoville Poyferre for 2018 Futures but opted for Léoville-Barton instead.

“Less than optimal ‘11 Napa vintage” by who’s standards? I cannot believe how many people still regard ‘11 as being a poor or underwhelming vintage? I guess some of the esteemed wine critics were looking for another blockbuster year, and 2011 didn’t have the ripeness they were looking for. Oops!

$310 from the mailing list when it sells for substantially less in the seconady market? They have to know it’s too much! Léoville Las Cases 2016 for less as well, they need to know this, and they also need to know that as good as Hillside Select is, it’s not 2016 Las Cases!

Awfully early for 17's at this stage, mostly still in barrel. Their development across the Valley will certainly be interesting. There seems to be less negativity for 2017 as compared to 2011, but I betting on the former to be the superior vintage.
