Re: Tasting Impressions - 2018 Sandler Pinots - Over The Course Of A Week

Chris and John - my experience with Coravin is that for most of the wines I Coravin, there is a noticable "evolution" of wines, even over just the course of a week. Maybe I don't Coravin correctly, so to put this into context, I have been using a Coravin since 2013, and I generally Coravin 1 glass o...

Tasting Impressions - 2018 Sandler Pinots - Over The Course Of A Week

A little late in posting these tasting impressions, but a few weeks back, I had the opportunity to taste the 2018 Sandler pinots over the course of a week (Peterson, Boer, Cortada Alta, and Madzia's). I coravin'ed about a 4 oz pour from each pinot each night, to see if/how they evolved over the cour...

Re: Falltacular 2019...a thank you in advance/thread for TNs and comments

Many thanks to Frank and Jill for hosting such a wonderful event. I feel lucky to be a part of such a great community contributing to such a worthy cause. Unfortunately I did not take any formal tasting notes (I was having too much fun talking and tasting and eating), but here are some impressions f...

Re: DELMORE wines BD10 newbie offer

The new book is a great read as well! I had as much fun reading about his adventures at Two Hands as I did about his experiences at Hirsch. I found both books to be quick, but very entertaining reads. Darren's wines don't suck either! [cheers.gif] I've had both his pinot and syrah and they're terrif...

Eric,

Quick question - how does the zin line up against the primitivo you poured at Falltacular last year?

Thanks and cheers!

Re: Week 1 - Virtual Tasting for Charity - Empty My Wallet, Help Me Support Laura's House

2002 Paul Lato Pinot Noir Gold Coast Vineyard with Thanksgiving lunch, - cranberries, earth and funk on the nose and palate. I remember this wine having a great floral quality to the nose and pure bright fruit on the palate in its youth - while it is still a nice drink with the turkey and fixings, i...

Re: Week 1 - Virtual Tasting for Charity - Empty My Wallet, Help Me Support Laura's House

2010 Big Table Farm Pinot Noir Resonance Vineyard - similar flavor profile to the Grochau PN from last night - nose of black cherry, cola and earth, on the palate tart cranberries, mineral and a tarry note. Light to medium bodied, with nice acidity and just a slight bitter note on the finish.

2008 Grochau Cellars Pinot Noir Cuvee des Amis - earthy cherries on the nose, same flavors follows through on the palate with a little bit of funk, little bitter streak on the finish detracts a bit when tasting the wine on its own, but worked nicely with a grilled pork loin for dinner.

Re: Week 1 - Virtual Tasting for Charity - Empty My Wallet, Help Me Support Laura's House

2011 Fogline Vineyards Pinot Noir, Sun Chase Vineyard - on first taste, this was all about bright red fruit, with a slight tea note on the finish. Lighter bodied but with lots of flavor, this just glides down the palate. With a little air, the fruit turns a little dark (maybe a little more black che...

Paul, genius. I was just signing in to refresh the thread to remind everyone that the challenge begins today. Thanks for kicking it off. You know, funny enough, this reminds me of the inverse of 'last man standing', which is the funny moment we recognize every year to the last person who leaves Fal...

Re: Week 1 - Virtual Tasting for Charity - Empty My Wallet, Help Me Support Laura's House

Well it looks like I'll get this rolling... 2017 Delmore Sta Rita Hills Pinot Noir - initial release from Darren Delmore (who I've had the pleasure of raising a glass with at Frank's Falltacular event the past few years). Bright nose of tart raspberries, with a little hint of earth hiding in the bac...

TN: 2007 Virage

I had coravin'ed a couple of glasses a couple of weeks ago, and at that time, I was a bit surprised that it was still a bit tight and restrained. Tonight I cracked open the bottle to drink up, a little worried that my experience with Coravin is that wines tend to start to fall apart a bit after a co...
