I put it in after the first pour. If you want to put it back in after a second pour, make sure you cover the filter with your thumb during the second pour so it isn’t exposed to oxygen outside the bottle.

Broke an 1855 recently. I struggle with putting stems in the dishwasher and the 1855 just doesn’t seem to fit well so I hand wash. It is a little harder to hand wash than the Zalto Universal. I wonder what the temperature protection difference is between the egg crates and the styrofoam. My bottles were very very cold when I picked them up this morning. That said, I did enjoy not having styrofoam pieces all over me and the cellar as well as having something that is easier to recycle.

Interesting results on the Chappellet. When I last had it in 2018, it needed much more air than it did when I had it in either 2015 or 2017. It took air after pouring through a Vinturi on night 2 to get to the point where it was as open as it was on PnP the two previous times.

I agree that my preference would be for styrofoam especially when I hear someone like Morgan worry about heat issues with the alternatives. I get plenty of shipments in styrofoam that are not filled with little pieces.
