Going Deep or Moderate on 2012 - 2013 high end Cali Wine?

Deep, because 10 was variable, 11 sucked, 14 will probably not be exceptional, and 15 will be tiny. Word is 2014 is supposed to be somewhere between '12 and '13 vintages for Napa cab. I'd say that's pretty solid. I can't speak about the 14 California Cabs, but I think the 14 Sonoma Pinot Noir Vinta...

Seghesio (Sonoma) - is this a trend?

I stopped by the Seghesio tasting room in Healdsburg earlier this week, not out of any love for their wines, but because it was about 4:30 and no one else was open. . Pretty much all of the Tasting Rooms on or adjacent to the Healdsburg Plaza Square are open until 6 or 7 PM. Being inside city limit...

Keep in mind that , that weekend is a wine road ("Winter Wineland" ) event in and around Healdsburg (my TR is on the Plaza Square) , so there will be more people tasting and caravaning around than usual.

As a winemaker/winery owner the ONLY reason I sell off anything in bulk is for quality issues. Quality product (even if it's too much) IMO will always sell eventually, so I don't mind bottling it. A couple of low tech ways I've used.... 1. Electric Blankets... 2. Tents ( or any kind of non flammable covering) with space heaters. Aging Domestic Pinot Noir: Better or just different?

I guess my theory is that fine California Pinots, if they are stored perfectly (like in a cold cave or basement) they can last for a long, long time. Merely average cold storage won't do it, to go those extra yards (years) ......... You might get to 5 or 6 years in an average actively cooled "cellar...

Aging Domestic Pinot Noir: Better or just different?

I have a good friend who is a well known winemaker who has been making fine Pinot Noir for almost 30 years. His (passive) cellar is in SF, in a basement. It never gets above 60, and any temperature changes are very slow. His business partner (who has the same wines) has an actively cooled above grou...
