I'm a lifetime AA Platinum. Even I rarely get upgraded these days, with so many Exec Platinums around. But the early boarding, and particularly access to their "main cabin extra" seats with more leg room is a decent benefit, as well as priority rebooking if there is a cancellation or missed connect...

oh todd, it used to be a hidden thing, but you can request a "platinum" challenge, where if you flew a certain number of miles or segments in the next X months, you get platinum status for the rest of the year, with the implication you would keep up the travel to keep platinum for future years.

these days, the only status that gets real noticeable perks is exec platinum. (free domestic upgrades that usually clear, and 8 systemwide upgrades) My knowledge is probably outdated though as I've dropped out of the FF game. the 2013 horseshoe syrah barrel sample was poured at the pickup day. As with my past experience with the horseshoe syrah, it was meaty, black pepper. Fine but really coating tannins. Big boned, but cool.
