The Anti-Critic?

This thread reminds me somewhat of the anti-intellectual crowd. I've been enjoying and tasting wines for close to 33 years. I was and remain enthusiastic about Antonio's palate though I find the subscription fee high. I am a big fan of Connoisseurs Guide to California Wines (it never occurred to me ...

Wine Tasting is BS

No doubt still an attention getting thread for some, after all these years, but really does anyone believe that the 20 or so 100 point scores handed out in the past year by the Grand Poobah were tasted blind? Wine is best enjoyed at table but surely it's not always an available option for evaluating...

In terms of the wines tasted the line up is hardly representative (except for Mondavi Reserve) so I would draw no conclusions about the vintage based on this tasting. Also, had they poured the Chappellet Prichard Vineyard (underrated IMO) that would have been interesting.

Kim, funny you should use the word "dead" in reference to the palate! I've only got a few and I won't be opening a bottle any time soon. It is surprising how few tasting notes there are for BK2. Chambers return policy is incredible; I can't think of a single retail shop in the Bay Area that has a similar one. Most have a disclaimer right on the web site about purchasing older wines: caveat emptor. "I do think a good retailer should not have sold that bottle, based exclusively on its externa...

I used to think that UPS was easily the worst but I'd now elevate Fed Ex to that status. I'm not familiar with overnight delivery, nor business ones, but their tracking info always has a caveat; the time and day are "approximate" delivery times.

Steve, For goodness sakes the characteristic eucalyptus note in the classic Heitz Martha's Vineyard disappeared when the entire vineyard was replanted in the early 90's due to phylloxera, and no wines were made in the mid-1990 for a few vintages. The wines since don't have that note; one rumor has i...

Actually, in Parker's recent 2001 retrospective tasting the Montelena score dropped to 91+. His "prose" gives absolutely no reason for the reevaluation although he still gives the wine a good write up though he has certainly shortened the drinking window. My 2001 is sleeping and I won't be opening a...
