Latest Saxum Release

Alas, no Rocket Block, but these 2013s should be sufficiently life-changing on their own. champagne.gif Anyone had a taste? Message (I believe I’m second wave):

“Your next offering from Saxum Vineyards will begin Tuesday, July 21st 2015 and will be held until Monday, July 27th. If you are unable to place an order during that time please let us know. We are excited to offer our 2013 James Berry Vineyard, 2013 Paderewski Vineyard, and 2013 Terry Hoage Vineyard. Along with a letter mailed to your billing address, we will send you an e-mail on July 21st with a link that will automatically log you into your allocation page online.”

I have not gotten an e-mail yet. I wonder if there is any Rocket Block for the first wave?

dates above are first wave per sierra

From the website:

"NOTES FROM JUSTIN:
I think this is one of the, if not THE best vintage we have ever
had. There are some vintages that are more of this or more of
that, but the ‘13s have a bit of everything. Concentration, but not
super rich (hello ’14s!), soft tannins but still some grip, great
fresh acids but nothing searing or flabby, depth, depth, and
more depth, they are as a whole wines that continue to evolve in
the glass for days, every sip revealing something new,
something that was hidden the previous sip. They will definitely
reward a few years of cellaring but will be very enjoyable in the
short term.

This is the 10th release of our James Berry Vineyard bottling. Of
those, the last 7 have found their groove with being Grenache
based but still having good doses of Mourvèdre and Syrah and
lately even some Counoise. To me, this ‘13 vintage is what I
would call “classic JBV.” It speaks of what James Berry Vineyard
is all about. Power and structure balanced by soft rich
tannins and juicy freshness along with a beautiful spine of red
fruits and black licorice. No doubt aging part of the blend in
large oak casks has kept it focused and fresh, but we used
about 60% new French oak barrels to add some richness and
spice. It’s yummy now but please let some bottles rest a few
years to really get the most out of it.

The Paderewski is not a classic in the sense that I don’t feel we
have a classic Paderewski Vineyard style yet. We continue to
tweak the blend every year and the 2013 is no exception. For
the first time the Zinfandel is in second place and Mourvèdre
has taken the lead. As the vines at this vineyard age and I get a
better handle on them I am more and more a believer that the
Mourvèdre from here is insane. We always have two main lots
from this vineyard, the first picked is the Zin/Temp/Syrah lot (all
co-fermented in a single concrete cube). I’m always blown away
by how awesome it is that the Temp balances the Zin out and
how perfectly delicious and fresh it is. Then the later picked
Mourvèdre/Petite Sirah lot comes in and I’m floored! Black, rich,
textured with huge chalky tannins and fruit for days. When the
blends are finally assembled I love how the Zin really makes
everything pop.

The Terry Hoage Vineyard bottling continues to be the bottling I
grab to enjoy while I let the others slumber. It is just plain delish
right out of the gates and this 2013 rendition is no exception.
For me its all about soft tannin and rich fruit but no heaviness at
all, it’s almost delicate. Lots of red fruits, black berry and some
sage notes, but the one characteristic that I ALWAYS get from
THV, and maybe some of you have noticed this too (or maybe
I’m just crazy?) is watermelon, specifically as you’re eating
down towards the rind. Yeah, now that I’m typing this I realize
I’m probably just crazy…anyways! It’s a pleaser, watermelon
rind or not, it’s just plain pleasurable to drink."

I got an email for the offering starting on Tuesday the 28th. I wonder if this is the 2nd or 3rd wave.

Mine says July 21

I haven’t even gotten an email or letter yet

Leonard you must be in the first wave, congrats!

My email. like Michael’s, states the 28th. I’m traveling from the 28th through Aug. 8th so I emailed Saxum. We’ll see what alternate arrangements they can make.

The waves are normally a week apart so the 28th sounds like 2nd wave

Im sure Justin is not being shy with his notes but he sure does sound excited, i know Saxum can be polarizing but for those of us who like the style the best wines are utterly superb and although $100 is not low compared to some other wines they are good value

If that is true, then this release is my first, second wave. Not sure what the second wave gets, but I’ll take everything I can get. It is hard to find a wine as complex and enjoyable as a Saxum.

Anyone not taking their allocation please contact me

im another Steve looking for wines from those who dont take their allocation  pm me.

Had some of the 13 Paderewski last week and it was very good. I was impressed with it being both very complex and rather fresh tasting. I would/will buy!

Michael

I got my first second wave in the spring release this year and it got me nothing !! not because of the releases but just because of a wine shortage. In theory I believe we will get two Terry Hoages added to the normal 4 x JBV and 2 x Pad’s that the 3rd wave gets. As I understand it the real goal is to get to first wave, then you hit the Saxum motherload.

I am really excited for the 13’s and 14’s though, my first year was the 11’s which being a down year I think was of the reasons I managed to get an allocation, the 12’s are fantastic the JBV is excellent so the highly rated 13’s could hopefully get near the 07’s in quality.

Mourvedre and Zinfandel sounds intriguing.

By the way check CC for unwanted allocation, there is one posted there already and from history there will be at least a few more.

Personally I hope nobody buys any of it so I get my wish list !!

I’m in the first wave on the 21st and get a healthy allocation every year. If anyone wants these at cost, PM me.

Are mags part of the first wave offering?

Looks like this is live.

All in for what I was offered. Anybody else notice allocations are down? At least for me vs this offer last year. Wish listed some. Wonder if yields are down?

Yes, mags are offered at the same time as 750’s.
