DRC large format question

I understand that after 2007 (?) DRC no longer produces large format bottles.

Does anyone know how many magnums, double magnums and bigger were generally produced before then?

Reason I ask is that I came across this article which includes a picture of Allen Meadows standing in front of what has to be a 6L bottle of DRC - I have never seen one (although that’s not saying anything) and can only imagine how rare they must be.

i know only from 2005 la Tâche and 2005 RC(from my site)

Romanée-Conti 2005
75cl: 4’785
Magnum: 300
Jéroboam: 10
Mathusalem: 8
Total: 5489 Fl.

La Tâche 2005
75cl: 20’486
Magnum: 600
Jéroboam: 25
Mathusalem: 15
Total: 21’906 Fl.

magnums gives today

Per the DRC, following the 2009 vintage, they will no longer be offering wines in a formats larger than a magnums

God, how much would a Mathusalem of 2005 DRC RC cost? 150k?

direct?think only 20-30000$. [cheers.gif]

Offering and making might be 2 different things…

2008 was the last vintage bottles larger than magnum were released for sale.

Who knows if it’s real, anyway…“Rudy” created lots of product in his time…and Mr. Meadows vouched for “Rudy” very publicly and vociferously for a while in Rudy’s “career”…so…who knows what’s in that bottle…

just wondering…

I expect these numbers will increase over time.

Awesome!

Must be at least 10x in circulation by now…and growing!

exponentially

As for larger DRC formats R. Oesterle posted
"Romanée-Conti 2005
75cl: 4’785
Magnum: 300
Jéroboam: 10
Mathusalem: 8
Total: 5489 Fl.

where is this information from? Is it possible to get the break-up for all DRC and all vintages?
Thanks, Karl

Karl…since there is no posting from R. Oesterle, so I tried to be helpful. I remembered I copied and kept notes posted by R. Oesterle regarding DRC.

I checked for notes in my person file and did not find what you were exactly looking. Here is what I had found - just the number of bottles of RC and LT - hope it may help.

Explanation notes - of of the information posted below. For example for the vintage year 2005 - the total number of bottles for RC was : 2005 - 5489.It did not represent that they were all 750 …but including all the large format.

Very difficult.
I have the numbers for 2005 —> 2008 for all cuvée’s and formats.

If you have a relationship with an agent/importer, maybe they will share.

Thanks Peter, very belated (sorry, I am new to WineBerserkers).
There must be somebody who keeps track of the number of DRC bottles produced — by bottle format.
I wonder where R. Oesterle’s info is from.

DRC provides the quantity of bottles (all bottles) produced for each grand crus and each vintage 1997-2011.
http://m.romanee-conti.fr/grand-cru/echezeaux.php
But it is not broken down by bottle format.

Cheers, Karl

The key word is sale. My understanding is Aubert keeps larger format wines but are not for sale.

Can’t always tell from a bottle. 99 GE—I have magnum 14 of 10,072 bottles but no idea how many mags. 90 LT mag is 125 of 24,071 bottles, and so forth.

had this information only for the 2005 vintage from swiss importer for DRC.
on my old website;

Roman…very nice to see your post.

Welcome back - should I say ?
