Selyem Release - Recommendations?

Berserkers, Any help on this one?

I had the chance to visit the vineyard months ago as a referral and the grounds and people were amazing.

I finally got on the list, but I don’t see any posts regarding their recent release and people’s expected purchases. What gives? Bedrock, Rivers Marie, etc. were up as soon they hit. Would be good to get some insights? The Rochioli, Hirsch, Eastside are potentials. I can’t recall tasting the Chardonnay on my last visit, but would hope it could be similar to Bacigalupi which is down the road.

The list I have so far is as follows:

2013 Eastside Road Neighbors Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Calegari Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Foss Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Vista Verde Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Weir Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Bucher Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Ferrington Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Coastlands Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Hirsch Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Burt Williams’ Morning Dew Ranch Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml ( SOLD OUT)
2013 Rochioli Riverblock Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Allen Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Precious Mountain Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Williams Selyem Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750ml
2013 Allen Vineyard Chardonnay, 750ml
2013 Drake Estate Vineyard Chardonnay, 750ml
2013 Bacigalupi Vineyard Zinfandel, 750ml (SOLD OUT/NA)
2010 Vista Verde Vineyard Port, 375ml

W-S has priced me out as a customer.

Buy Peay and Rhys instead.

I like Weir, Ferrington, Hirsch, Westside Neighbors. Everything’s good and nothing’s a bargain.

With 14 Pinots available, it’s a little wonder it’s confusing.
One needs an abacus to help figure it all out…

Add Allen. Forgot that one.

Still, not a bargain, and there are so many bargains out there. Now on their third generation of winemaker.

My vote is for Morning Dew, Rochioli and Allen.

Agreed, the prices sting, but in their style, still among the very best most ageable Cali Pinots.

A side note on price, when I last checked their prices were close to the same SV offerings from Coastlands, Peay, Hirsch and Rochioli (unfortunately they no longer make Peay.

I’ve tasted them all, and over all very similar to the 12’s with a bit more oomph.

I didn’t buy any non Pinots, but of the 2013 Pinots I ordered the ones in bold, with the Red Bolded ones being early standouts.

Also worth noting to earlier points regarding price, is it fair or close to fair that anyone producing wines from the same vineyards are charging near the same price or very close to W-S charges for their own SVD Pinots? I am sure there are a few exceptions but take a Littorai Hirsch vs W-S Hirsch I believe the price is pretty close to the same. I have some W-S favorites (Hirsch, Rochioli) but my desire to try some other brands take on say Weir, Coastlands, Hirsch, Bucher, Ferrington, etc have me purchasing less at this time. I met (and worked for the same company) as current winemaker Jeff Mangahas when he worked at Hartford Family Winery/Hartford Ct when he first started there, great guy, passionate and enjoys making Pinot Noir so hopefully W-S can continue their success with him at the helm.
