Is There World Class Italian Chardonnay?

I am referring to 100% Chardonnay, no cuvees with other varieties. Thanks

I’ve always loved the Isole e Olena Chardonnay that Paolo De Marchi produces in Tuscany.

Not much. But Querciabella Batar might qualify.

Batar is not 100% Chardonnay but 50% Chard and 50% Pinot Blanc

Passopisciaro Chardonnay is getting better and better.
Pretty darn good.

Agree!

Nope. Enough Italian questions. Let’s move on to France.

Correct. What was I thinking?

what about Gaja’s Gaia & Rey Chardonnay? Pricy for sure, but really damn good the few times I’ve had it.

+1. Had the 1989 a few weeks ago. It was stunning.

There are others.

Aldo Conterno makes a great chardonnay.Meroi is decent, Isole e Olena, other then that, I have struggled to find good Italian chard. I would say Elena Walch but she uses 5 percent gewürztraminer.

Gaja and Rey can give the top Burgundies a run for their money. A Tuscan Chardonnay named Monteverro is new but offers a ton of potential.

I had this once and was stunned by its complexity and fruit salad presentation, but it is very pricey.

Miani.

Edi Kante.

I had the Vernezia Guilia recently and liked it quite a lot. Jermann also makes a pretty good Pinot Grigio.

I really like the chards from Terlan from Trentino- Alto Aldige. Cool climate, minerally and good acids.

Friuli does. Agree with Susan on Jermann. Vignai da Duline makes the best Chardonnay I’ve had from IT. Kante is also excellent.
