Setting up the new server, establishing a fresh database on it where we'll launch the test site, fine tuning until we have it correct prior to dumping the data to the new software/server (this part will be the downtime, where you'll be forced to talk to your spouses and other acts of horror)

In time, I'll send a message out - not until I know the scheduled downtime, however.

but ... but ... what if I buy a bottle of wine? How will I let everyone know?

I assume you aren’t using Oracle for a back end database but if you are I’d be happy to lend my expertise. In a more general sense be sure to keep the old database around for a while for reference purposes in case problems crop up which aren’t immediately obvious. One thing I’ve seen often as an issue is indexes accidentally created as a sys user so they don’t get carried over during the data transfer.
Ripe fruit isn't necessarily a flaw.

I remember when Flyertalk would do serious updates. You had all those frequent flyer nuts (ok to insert wine geeks) going crazy. Everyone was alone at home. Everyone kept hitting refresh as the conclusion (end time) grew near. Back then, someone actually set up a ghost board where we could take a deep breath, and breathe again. This board can't imagine how their lives will change during the Berserker update. The more time that passes, the easier it gets. Sort of like a cigarette smoker (are you still one of those?) trying to go cold turkey.

Don't see why it would have started yesterday - some get it still, but all will be fixed on the new server, as we're upgrading TLS as well
