“Mahle told Wine-Searcher that he had been trying to get out of his partnership with Terroir Life long before its founder Charles Banks pled guilty to federal wire fraud last year.”
I would anyone who’s a fan of Wind Gap would have an easy transition to Pax. Sounds like many, if not most, of the wines will transition to that label.
To describe it as anything but contentious would be wrong. I spoke to Pax about it when he was in NY about 5 years ago pouring some of the early Windgap sines, I would not want to repeat my recollection of what he said from memory because I could easily mis-remember the specifics, but I have no doubt that he thought the break up was a mess and he got screwed. See Pax’s post here in my thread about that meeting for confirmation. Pax Mahle: Going over to the dark side, seeing the light, chocolate and asparagus - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers. Joe Donelan probably felt the same way on the other side. If that makes it a “normal” business divorce, so be it.
As to his wines - I have always loved what he does with grapes. The 2004 Pax wines that I saved just to test ageability are going strong. I do not own more of the newer ones only because I buy too much wine altogether and there’s a lot of good stuff out there.
