TN: 2016 Wind Gap Wines Pinot Noir (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast)

2016 Wind Gap Wines Pinot Noir - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (11/4/2018)
Very well put together, young Pinot Noir, with cherry fruit accented by licorice and cinnamon spice tones. There is a sneaky tannic structure, which bodes well for future development. I am sorry to see this bottling disappear, as Pax Mahle exits Wind Gap, but it’s a nice swan song.

Awesome note - thanks for sharing!

The 2015 had a plastic cork. Does this one have a real cork or plastic again?

It’s not plastic. I don’t recall the exact material, but it’s not plastic.

It’s sugarcane iirc.

Thank you. I tried using my Coravin and wine started spewing out of the cork.

The Pinot was great but I was disappointed with the cork

This continues to develop, with sour cherry fruit that’s a bit darker and less bright than my last bottle (still plenty of acid here, though!); also a bit of funk that I didn’t notice before. I don’t think this will age into anything mind-blowing, but a great value at the closeout price of $16 (via Vivino, I think?).

Yes. Nomacorc.

Loren, is that what was used on the Wilde Farm 2017 Halcon??

TIA

I actually opened a bottle of this wine a couple of weeks ago. Hated it. Oh well.

Yep. And all of the other Wilde Farm Wines in 2017 and 2018. So far, no problems to report.
