An historic document : 1947 wines VanderMeulen. How much did a barrel of top wine cost in 1948 ?

I got my eyes on a flyer with offerings from the famous Belgian negotiant Vandermeulen from Oostende . This document is probably from 1948 or 1949 .
It offers a barrel of wine , defined in the document as 225 liters or 314 bottles . Extra cost of putting the wines in barrel , corks , labels , capsules and delivery in your cellar : 2 Belgian Francs per bottle ( 5 cents ) .
Offer
la Conseillante 1947: 20.000 bf ( = 500 $ )
Cheval Blanc 1947 :22.000 bf
Petrus 1947 : 23.000 bf
Chateau Margaux 1947 : 24.000 bf
“ great white dry Bordeaux “ 1945 : not defined ) : 20.000 bf
1er Grand Cru chateau Coutet 1945 : 30.000 bf
Corton 1947 : 26.000 bf
Vosne Romanee 1947 : 28.000 bf
Chambertin 1947: 30.000 bf
Meursault Charmes 1947 : 30.000 bf
Montrachet 1947 : 32.000 bf

So , 1 bottle of Petrus 1947 was approximately $ 1,85 ! A barrel was $ 575 plus change …

I was born too late and lived in Belgium way too late to ever take advantage of an offer like that!

Thanks for sharing, really interesting.

VanderMeulen had excellent taste in pricing.

I’ll have one of each please.

Very cool…

Thanks for sharing.

Even way back when, Burgundy was more expensive than top Bdx! neener

Not surprising since Burgundy was always smaller than Burgundy.

Thanks for posting. Interesting to see what they offered and relative pricing back then.

Makes it VERY rare, indeed! neener
