On the Monk front, as many of you may know, Monk’s middle name was Sphere. While he was alive, you could look him up in the Manhattan phone book and find his number listed across from Monk, Theolonius S. (As if there were others.) We used to love checking it out as teenagers, when first discovering jazz, but never actually rang him up.
