TN: 2011 Rhys Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard

2011 Rhys Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (6/23/2019)
As usual with Rhys, the Horseshoe Vineyard is my favorite. I have struggled with the 2011 Rhys lineup, but this is lovely. It is still marked by the vintage, but it’s a menthol/mint element, rather than an unpleasant green tone. The red fruit is elegant, and fresh, similar to a just cut berry, and there’s bit of orange peel as well. On the lighter side of medium bodied, I think it’s doing all that it can, without trying too hard.

I drank this from my cellar in St Joe last weekend, paired with the 2011 Home Vyd (and lamb chops). I liked them both very much but think I preferred the Home just slightly. My group went back and forth re which was preferred.

Thanks for the update on the 11s here.

I think Home and Horseshoe did the best in 2011 out of the Rhys line up, although looking at my list I see I haven’t tried the Skyline yet.
