TN: Two Whites in Kansas...(short/boring)

Tried these two whites that I picked up at Gomer’s Mid-town w/ Kansas friends:

  1. Flying Solo IGP: Pays d’Oc Languedoc/Rousillon (85% GrenacheBlanc/15% Viognier; 13%; www.DomaineGayda.com) Dom.Gayda 2017: Pale yellow color; pleasant GB/honeysuckle/floral/carnations slight stony/chalky nose; rather soft light GB/honeysuckle slight stony rather dull/vapid flavor; short soft slight stony/tangy/metallic light floral/GB/honeysuckle finish;a pleasant enough nose but pretty dull/vapid on the palate. $10.00 (Gomers/MT)

  1. SwickWines Melon de Bourgogne OR (“Bring It”; www.SwickWines.com) JosephSwick/Newberg/OR 2018: Light bronze rather cloudy/murky color w/ lots of tiny bubbles that dissapate; some phenolic/resiny/skin-contact rather earthy/slight floral light mousey/hantavirus fairly natty bit strange nose; quite acidic/sour fairly phenolic/skin-contact/resiny bit earthy fairly natty/hantavirus/mousey rather savory flavor w/ bit spritzy/dissolved CO2; fairly long rather tart/acidic/sour some phenolic/resiny/skin-contact light floral rather savory somewhat nattymousey/hantavirus finish; not unclean or bretty or flawed but a bit too weird/natty for my taste. $25.00 (Gomers/MT)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. JoeSwick, a native Oregonean, is a natural winemaker. It certainly showed thru in the rather natty character the wine showed. This wine had a rather skin-contact character, though it was not made (at least the 2016) w/ skin-contact but direct to press. Melon de Bourgogne is, of course, the grape of Muscadet. Didn’t find any resemblance to Muscadet save for the high acidity.

Kansas? Man, you get around.

Yup, Markus…born & raised in Kansas. How else could I use a descriptor like “Kansas outhouse on a hot July day”?? You had to have been there.
Drove back to KansasCity to pick up my two grandsons for two weeks.
