The end of Cabernet in Napa Valley? - SF Chronicle

“Napa wineries are confronting climate change by planting new experimental vineyards — without the region’s lifeblood, Cabernet Sauvignon.”

It’ll be OK, Carneros is loading up on Bordeaux varietals.

Mike Smith WON’T let that happen.

On the money, Mike!!

Almost all of the varieties they list look like a waste of time pursuing. They’re historic CA grapes and already planted in warmer sites. Are wines from those sites performing close to the level of quality they want to maintain?

Not only should they be anticipating more warmer vintages and more irregular heat spikes, but some unusually cool periods at unpredictable times, more inconvenient frosts, rain, etc.

The blown up market price for CS makes a smart diverse planting strategy untenable for most.

these nonsensical moves are simply to appease the wackado neighbors in the area.

the chronicle hopes it’s non cab at 3.2 pH aged in stainless and concrete.

Get ready for the rise of Pope Valley and Chiles Valley ‘Napa’ cabs and Bordeaux blends!

Interesting cab trials getting started.

Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere.
