Is there a better Halloween wine than EMH Black Cat ?

#1 Post by F.Daner » October 31st, 2019, 11:21 am

Not in my cellar

2009 EMH Black Cat open and in the decanter. Already smells wonderful.

What are you drinking tonight ?

Happy Halloween everyone. Hopefully everyone in Sonoma is making there way back home and can enjoy a glass of wine.

Cheers

Ooh, great question!

I dunno yet!

Maybe a wine made by someone who is now dead. I'll call it vino de los muertos.

Not for the wine but the bottle fits the theme. Black Cat has to be #1 though.

Lol. I’m assuming Curtis was being cheeky and saying the Black Cat isn’t really a “scary” wine. It’s more cute. That’s how I read it and thought it was funny. I wouldn’t take offense. :)

My 2009 EMH Black Cat is, in my opinion, the best wine I have made. Particularly the Special Selection. Number 2 is the 2001, which is still showing strong.

Loved the 09 Merrill and it's still has a ton of life in it. I am supposed to have 1 of the Special Selection left but haven't been able to find it in the cellar.

If you have a 2006 tucked in your cellar, give it try. See Jay Hack's review on Cellartracker.

I tasted the '09 SS with you, Erez et al in 2014. It's still my highest rated EMH according to my CT notes. I'm saving my bottle for a special occassion.
Oh, and the regular '09 wasn't bad either. [wink.gif]

Agreed, and thanks. I can only drink these 2009s on special occasions - have way less than a case in my library.

Hi Sarah, not exactly sure what your asking but you tagged a good thread as we get close to Halloween.

Hopefully Florida is not too warm and we can open several bottles of Black Cat to enjoy with the neighbors.

Ha! I woke up and saw this - had completely forgotten it, although I am considering an offer of Magnums to ship in time for Halloween (and Thankgiving and Christmas, too). Should probably get that together.
