Mansfield-Dunne Wines

Andrew Vingiello formerly of A.P.Vin is now associated with these wines. Any insight on these bottlings that are now offered?

The winemaker is Ed Kurtzman… so it must be good stuff.

I’m not aware of Andrew being involved. They bought some of his equipment, and he’s a friend. It’s possible. Ed Kurtzman is the winemaker. John Peterson is the owner of the label and the vineyards. The wines are all estate. John and Ed are two of the three partners in August West (with Howard Graham of Graham Family Vineyard).

The older vineyard is Peterson Vineyard. There are a bunch of Pinot clones there, so the Peterson and SLH bottlings are different selections (as are August West and Sandler SVDs. Those two’s SLH blends now include some other source, but iirc have been 100% Peterson in the past.)

The newer vineyard, Cortada Alta, is the highest elevation site in the AVA. For me, the wines from there are more open and expressive on release.

For anyone local, their open house is Nov 17th, shared with August West, Sandler and probably some others.

Andrew sent out an email yesterday about Mansfield-Dunne. It wasn’t really clear what his new position is but it does sound like he’s come on board with them in some capacity. That was the first I’d heard of this.

For anyone interested in going to the Mansfield-Dunne / August West / Sandler / + others open house in San Francisco on Sunday 11/17, Harrington Wines is also having an open house that afternoon, so it will be a perfect opportunity to stop in at both places - it’s only a 5-6 minute drive from one to the other.

FYI: at the Mansfield-Dunn tasting they will be pouring at least three different producers that Ed Kurtzman makes (August West, Mansfield-Dunne, Sandler Wine Company). I personally prefer the more restrained style of the Sandlers but all three are excellent quality. In addition, there will be some custom crush clients of Ed’s pouring their wines which are also outstanding. Highlawn, Cellar 33, Theolopis, and more typically. The Cortada Alta vineyard is fairly new but it has a unique quality and is my 2nd favorite behind the Bien Nacido pinots.

Between the two tastings that Sunday there is something for everyone. Both these folks put on a great-tasting and are typically pouring over 20 wines at each venue. Get some Christmas shopping done early and come hang with your fellow Berserkers.

Invitation Below:

Hello Sean

You’re invited to join Mansfield-Dunne Wines, August West, Cellars 33 and Waits-Mast at our the Mansfield-Dunne Winery in San Francisco.

This is a perfect opportunity to taste our pre-release 2018 and older library wines. As you know…pizza goes great with Pinot Noir, so of course we’ll be serving pizzas from nearby Long Bridge Pizza Co to accompany the wines.

You’ll have an opportunity to enjoy a variety of great wines and delicous food, meet our winemaker Ed Kurtzman and mingle with other wine lovers. What better way to spend a beautiful fall Sunday afternoon (and don’t forget to bring your friends).

Club Members, if you wish to pick up your fall club shipment at the open house, please let us know and we will have it ready for you.

Of course, you are all free to order (or re-order) our 2017 wines at any time.

Sincerely,

John & Lynn Peterson

Mansfield-Dunne Wines

Just saw a Facebook post this morning from Ed Kurtzman, and these are the wineries that will be pouring from noon-4pm this afternoon at 495 Barneveld in San Francisco:
August West, Sandler, Mansfield-Dunne, Highlawn, Hersly, Ryan Cochrane Wines, Theopolis, and Cellars 33

All very good producers - definitely worth checking out if you’re in the San Francisco area this afternoon! And the Harrington Wines open house from 1-4pm is only about a 5-minute drive from there (at 1559 Custer Ave.), so come by and taste more wines before or after you visit 495 Barneveld.
