TN: 1978 Vieux Château Certan

This wine still has a dark, healthy color and a moderately intense nose of olives, cedar, herbs and cherry fruit. Classic sour cherry and red currant on the fresh, elegant palate, with an herbal, green note reminiscent of tarragon and basil on a background of forest floor and barnyard funk. With time, anise, dark fruits, and a nice blueberry note come to the fore, excellently balanced by a great minerality and breezy acidity. This delicate, medium-bodied wine is by no means a spectacular VCC, but it has a charming freshness and the structure to last another few decades.

Thanks!

Totally mirrors my experience.
The great resurgence of VCC began in 2005.

There are some notable exceptions. The 1981 recently was gorgeous

A lot of really good Pomerols from 1981, but I don’t think it jumped within the hierarchy until 2005.
I would place it above Trotanoy, on a par with Lafleur and behind Petrus.

Golodetz going to singlehandedly drive VCC over $200 / bottle…

You made me chuckle, Marcus.

I won’t stop until it has reached $201

I always thought it started in 1945 and never let up

Which shows how subjective such generalizations are…
Nice to see you here, John!
