2012 Robert Hunter Malbec, Sonoma

Medium deep ruby color. The aromas are classic, featuring violets and blackberries, with some red fruit hints. The palate is medium to full-bodied, the substantial tannins are mostly resolved. There is reasonable density, hints of spice (ground coriander seed) and pleasing intensity of mostly black fruit. This is a nice glass for the leftover Christmas Roast Beast. The balance is good, but it finishes a little short. This is fully mature, but can easily hold another couple of years. Rated 88.5.

Overall I’ve enjoyed the wines from this now-defunct Sonoma producer. They had some wonderful bubbles, some other reds at this level, some not as good. My last bottle of Robert Hunter wines. I may search out a few more, because the name resonates with me, and I want to keep being reminded of it as there are also:
