TN: 2017 Bevan Ontogeny

This forum turned me on to Bevan wines and I was excited to try their 2017 Ontogeny as it is one of their ‘cheaper’ wines though certainly not cheap at $100 per bottle. The big and bold style of the Bevan Wildfoote is present here but more jammy. There is fruit for days with blueberries and darker fruits mixing together but it does not have the complexity on transitions of the other Bevan wine I have tried. I certainly do think 2017 is going to produce some nice wines after this experience but I do not feel this is a 96-99 point wine but closer to 94 with some cellaring. Still, fantastic, big, bold, and brash but it maybe tries too hard for that fruit rush and loses some sophistication in the process. Looking forward to trying it again after some time in the cellar.
