2017 Screaming Eagle

I was under the impression that Screaming Eagle was not releasing a 2017?

"We are writing to let you know that the 2017 vintage of Screaming Eagle will be released by email on the morning of Tuesday, January 14 (Pacific Time). You will also receive a paper copy in the mail.

This is a unique vintage for Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon, and we are only able to offer allocations to select members on the mailing list for the 2017 vintage. You will be informed of what we can offer in both your email and paper allocation letter. The offer period will be shorter than usual this year, closing on February 2, 2020.

We thank you for your continued support of our wines.

All the best,"

Interesting timing the same day as tariffs are to rise on EU Wines and goods

super interesting - and looking forward to understanding which wines they were able to make. galloni i believe reported last summer that no eagle would be made, but perhaps they were able to save some.

Someone posted that they are only releasing magnums this vintage.

that’s hot.

Contrary to the information out there, I am told much of the harvest was completed prior to the fire.

To my understanding, it will be the Estate Cab.

I also heard magnums only, limited supply. Just for the record this is from AG’s report (06/15/18) on first impressions of 2017-

[For some winemakers, the vintage was immediately compromised. “I got to the vineyard early on Monday morning [the first morning of the fires] and started tasting through the fruit. I knew right away it was gone,” Screaming Eagle’s Nic Gislason told me. At Screaming Eagle, only the Merlot-based The Flight will be bottled, while there will be no commercial release of the flagship wine.]

My understanding is that there is a very limited release of magnums.

So, I guess I am not making the list this year.

Maybe the offer ties a mag of estate to an allocation of Flight??

That’s odd, casinos in Vegas have been serving the '17 Screagle to high rollers for over 18 mos.

Maybe they finally ran out of ink for all the '82 Petrus labels they print.

Hard to imagine any barrel-aged 2017 Cabernet being sold by July 2018. Or does my sarcasmometer need recalibration?

Sigh…I guess I’m going to have to fire up my helicopter and fly over there to find out what’s going on.

Vegas sarcasometer, yes.

Caesars Entertainment serves more '82 Petrus each day than was made in total.

Why you gotta trash Gil Lempert-Schwarz like that? neener

In the new Vinous, Galloni just confirmed there is a limited production of ‘17 mags, from select pre-fire lots.

Looks like a library release of back vintage wines for some on the list. Pretty cool if you ask me.
A

My allocation was
1 Mag 2017
1 3 pack 2008 library release.

Dave…Is it a mag of 17 or 08? What price?

I am offered a three pack of 2007…as was a friend.

Interesting? Didn’t see that coming…
