TN: 2015 Scarpa Casascarpa Barbera d'Asti

  • 2015 Casa Scarpa Barbera d’Asti - Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Barbera d’Asti (1/16/2020)
Totally in my wheelhouse, very good. Elements of soil, leaves, stones, forest - they’re all there, and much more. If looking for a fruity barbera, look elsewhere. That said, by the end of the second hour (this was a PnP), lots of lovely red fruits, some leather, and walnut husk begin to appear. This youngster (the CT drink window of 2018-21 is silly, imo) will improve if cellared for the mid-term, but with just 60 minutes of air in decanter now, it’s sheer joy for those looking for a very traditional example of the variety, and place. An excellent partner to many foods; superb value. Natural cork, 13,5% abv. Drink now thru 2026. highly recommended
