2012 Trimbach Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre - France, Alsace (3/21/2020)
Everything I’ve read about this vintage says it was warmer, which is definitely reflected in this wine. The nose is lighter than most vintages I’ve had in the past, not showing the trademark explosive gewurz notes; palate is rich and flavorful, retains good gewurz character, perhaps missing a bit of spice, replaced by more lush, rich fruit, but there’s nothing overripe or flabby here. Gewurz always seems to struggle for acidity, but this has just enough for decent balance. I don’t think this has the potential to age and develop into something amazing, like the 2001 is still doing, but it’s a pretty tasty gulp right now if you like gewurztraminer. (90 pts.)
