TN: EdmundsStJohn Syrah TheShadow '02....(short/boring)

Tried this one w/ Susan on Fri:

  1. EdmundsStJohn Syrah TheShadow Calif (13.9%) C&B by Wayward Pilgrims of the Vine/AmericanCnyn 2002: Very dark color w/ some bricking; strong blackberry/blueberry/Syrah/bit spicy slight w-c(?)/roasted/Rhonish light earthy/Cornas-like light pencilly/oak rather complex nose; fairly tart some tannic/drying out light pencilly/oak slight w-c/Rhonish/roasted light blackberry/Syrah/blueberry/bit spicy slight earthy/rustic/Cornas-like complex/Rhonish flavor w/ modest drying/astringent tannins; very long/lingering rather drying/tannic quite smokey/Rhonish/roasted complex finish w/ some dried-out/astringent/rough tannins; a beautiful complex Rhonish nose w/ still plenty of good fruit but drying out on the palate; would have been better probably 5 yrs ago but still offers up pleasure.

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Not sure where the fruit for this Syrah came from. My recollect it was some of the last of Durrell fruit and some of his early Wylie-Fenaughty ElDorado fruit. Opened w/ low expectations and somewhat overdelivered.

Tom - I think CTRL-V is stuck on your keyboard.

A wine that has been ready/not ready/late for 5-10 years now. It’s Schrödinger’s Syrah.
