2018 Camillo Donati Lambrusco dell’Emilia IGT ‘Il Mio’ - Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Emilia IGT (4/27/2020)
Dark ruby in color. Fresh dark berries, anise, asphalt, and subtle florals on the nose. On the palate, petillant and interestingly simultaneously chewy and chalky on the palate. Midweighted with more crunchy fruit and well balanced acidity. This has a very interesting mix of snappy fresh berry fruit, acid, tannins, and chalky, chewy notes. A terrific pairing with a Neapolitan styled pizza with spicy Calabrian salami. A pairing where the wine just steps aside and elevates the pizza to another level. If this were a basketball player it would be a point guard who scores 2 points a game but has 10 assists. An idiosyncratic, fantastically food friendly wine.
