You gotta put in the work Jay, only way the payoff is worth it! [wink.gif]
There are so many witty responses that the guy with over 13,750 posts could make in response to two people whose aggregate post count equals a good weekend's worth, but my children are trying desperately to teach me to stop telling everyone to get off my lawn while referring to the trespassers as diapered newbies, so I'll ignore these comments and leave the thread to people who like to be conned into buying shitty wine at a low prices and then complain about it, which seems to be a common thread in this thread.

I will start the cliff notes on this but will need some help. First, you need to know that there are numerous threads within the thread.

The threads:
(1) Never ending debates about Cam's business model
- fanboys and haters going round and round about the merits/flaws of the dN business

(2) Source sleuthing
- the wine nerds doing yeoman's work of deciphering Cam's description to identify the source of the juice. For me, the most entertaining part of the thread,

(3) shipping fiasco
- the youngest branch in the overall thread - discussions around the recent trials and tribulations with wine being shipped earlier than expected and during a time of elevated temperatures in parts of the country

(3a) cooked wine, wine filtering, and the overall resilience of wine to heat exposure
- a subset of thread 3, folks with a wide range of actual knowledge of the topic weighing in with their opinions

(4) The Cult of dN
- If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand. Just know that MathewT is the undisputed cult leader

(5) New Product ideas
- there have bee a few suggestions that it might be useful if there were a tool that would facilitate buyers in specific markets being able to split/share cases - useful since dN only sells by the case.
I’d add:

(6) Storage
-Insights into wine fridges for purchase, racking, off-site, etc.

(7) “In for a case” and “passing” comments
-Endless posts of berkserkers simply informing each other of whether they purchased an offer or not. Likely adds quite a bit to the volume of the thread.

(8) Relationship support
-Discussions around how to convey large amounts of by the case purchase to one’s spouse or partner without incurring their ire.
I think there was a few pages dedicated to this earlier.

(9) Synthetic Corks (How that affects aging etc.) + Why is there no capsule on actual bottle when image mockup showed it.
(10) self-important bully and (by own admission) prodigiously blathering WineHack, in response to accurate summary of 5500 posts, [written in response to his own request], makes dramatic exit, promising never to return. The door hits him on the way out.

It's amazing. Simply amazing. I just thought the thread was to talk about each new offering and the value proposition. Not sure how it could have ever turned into personal attacks and the complete shitstorm it became. Now, the critical discussion about dN specifically around shipping but also about disclosures of what the wine is, the corks, etc, is exactly what I'd expect.

But the rest of it? My god.

Rodrigo - I did that - but then deleted a lot of the quoted post, to try and slim down the post. (quoting long posts is a pet-peeve of mine.) Obviously, I didn't do it right. I assume there is a way to "partially" quote a prior post, I will eventually figure it out.

de Negoce threads are the new Maison Ilan threads . . . .
Greg

In that way, he is like cornerback Darrelle Revis, deserving of his own island, Mangold Island, if you will. “That would be a rusty, filthy island where people wear ripped jeans and stay in hotel rooms that are half price,” tight end Dustin Keller said. “But they would serve wine, and only the finest for Nick Mangold.”

The only mistake you made is changing the first [.quote] to [./quote]. [.quote] starts the quoted text and [./quote] ends the quoted text. Note I put periods in the brackets to prevent them from actually quoting.

Could we please start a separate thread explaining how to quote previous messages? This is really off-topic and a imperious waste of my time.

BTW can anyone here help me find that case-splitter app? I’m too lazy to find the link, but I have lots of apparently shitty wine I need to unload.

So, instead of a witty response, you proffer one that only a douchebag would write. You are seriously calling these guys out as newbies based on their thread count and you pound your chest as if your 13,750 posts has any meaning whatsoever other than to highlight the fact that in the 11+ years since you and I joined this board (5/29/09 vs. 6/2/09, you beat me by 3 days), you have amassed 13744 more posts than I. How much time did that take you, time that you can never get back, and what did it get you -- bragging rights that you're the big macher on here?!? That's pretty sad, pretty pathetic. Little man. I am going to laugh myself to sleep over this and all that time you flushed down the toilet, dude. Keep bragging.

....... to accurate summary of 5500 posts,........
While there is absolutely no way I can say anything to help right this ship at this point (how about Da Bears?!), I will say that I am tremendously flattered that the extensive and detailed work that Vince, Rodrigo, and I put into summarizing the thread was appreciated by at least one person.

On a somewhat related topic, does anyone located in the DMV know of offsite storage on the south side of the Patowmack? My queries have only found locations in DC and I would rather not have to cross a bridge to access my juice.

Leaving this here so as to not clutter the tasting note thread:

I opened 1 each of the #3 and #4 two nights ago. They smelled oaky with a touch of VA, not pleasurable in any way, so I corked them and put them back in the fridge. Nose on both was better on day two, dominated by oak and dark fruit, consistent with what I'd expect in the sub $20 price point. I tasted the #3 and I think it's cooked - syrupy, pruney fruit and heavy oak spice. Color is fine.

Going to try #4 tonight. #17 arrived yesterday, slightly warmer outside temps than the first four cases, bottles were warm to the touch but no pushed corks. Not that Customer Service responds to my emails, but if they did, I'd assume they'll tell me to lay down all of these bottles for 60 days or whatever like they did upthread. Regardless of how #4 tastes tonight I'll do that for the sake of science, but if the result is different I'll be shocked.

First one that came to my mind is Bergstrom with their several Chehalem Mtn holdings. Price point also seems to match. JK Carriere also crossed my mind as they do blend their wines in a mix of new, first fill and neutral oak and generally disclose it in each cuvee, but I don’t recall if they have a lot of Chehalem Mountains holdings.

Hooray, we have a chance at returning to discussing actual wines.

Love the efforts of the wine sleuths on this board. Really curious what everyone comes up with here.

Thanks for all of the collective, constructive efforts.

Cheers!

Despite all the shipping woes people have experienced and some reluctance on my part to purchase more from Cam until this situation cleared up, I bought three cases.

I bought a case but I fail to see how this is an exercise in exploring clones?

New texting service came 3 minutes after email.

Also in for a case. Bergstrom came up when searching around, but Fullerton also looks like a possibility. No real confidence in either yet

Yup... this Chehelem Mountain pinot offer seems to be in my wheelhouse. I stayed away for a while, but in for one. Happy Friday all.

P.S. wife is a big rose fan, so picked one up. just received yesterday. opened one. we both thought it was solid. if it had any transport shock, was not noticing it. very pale, good acidity, true to a Provencal style.
