Anyone need a 1875 Château Mouton Rothschild...

Well…here ya go!

Provenance looks to be good, as it’s from Margrit Mondavi’s cellar!

Fake, expecting a double down on impressionists for the Mouton label…Renoir’s Portrait of Claude Monet

Damn, I do need that. Epic.

Someone placed a bid for it!

I’d love to get a couple of cases. It would make a decent daily drinker.

It’s not ready to drink yet.

Wow.

Top shoulder. … capsule and cork replaced. “

They omitted wine from the list of replacements.

Joking aside this isn’t my bailiwick so no idea if the label is remotely plausible. Who would this be be aimed at?

Shucks, my vintage chart only goes back to 1876. Gonna have to pass.

I think it’s Tom Hill’s birth year.

clearly more money than sense

Wouldn’t pay a penny over $4,999. It was only a second growth.

Calling François…

Or The Gilded Sage…

He’s going to have to slow ox it for weeks I’d think.

Damn, it’s the 1876 I need to complete my vertical! I guess I’ll just have to keep looking.

The Leaning Tower of Pauillac.

Yeah, I think it needs another 3-5 years before it really starts to sing.

A friend just told me he was at a dinner at the end of last year and a guy brought a bottle of this. Wine tasted unbelievably fresh and vigorous.

I’ve had unbelievable 100+ year old Port and Madeira, but I never knew dry table wine could be that long lived and healthy.

Queue in Francois . . . .

It’s certainly an interesting question. Bern’s has Gruaud-Larose from 1845 and 1855, both certified authentic from the Chateau and checked/recorked in 1996. Will set you back 45k and 42k, respectively.

I’ve had some Classified Growth’s from the 1918 from Bern’s that were not only alive but quite lovely. But dang, this is another 45 or so years for the Mouton and 60+ years for the GL.

Heck, if I had free money to Bern, I would do this.
