Occhipinti: Grotte Alte vs Contrada

This is a very specific question requiring a sub expert on Sicilian/Etna wines

There are a series of wines from Arianna that are of interest to me

The Grotte Alte which appears to be a ceruasolo blend of Nero D’Avola and Frappato…

and the 3 bottlings of the Contrada Pettineo…

Bombolieri, Pettineo, Fossa di Lupo.

The BB,PT and FL as they are known seem to be distinct sections of the vineyard. All Frappato.

any insight into comparisons between the bottlings?

The Grotte seems to be the most promising for laying down but appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

Monica Larner has a very nice review of the different Contrada bottlings, FYI

Good question. I can’t offer an answer, but I have two- just took a flyer- bottles of the 2014 Grotte Alte in the cellar so I am game.

love it
