TN: 1999 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova

  • 1999 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (6/24/2020)
Cloudy medium to deep ruby core with noticeable bricking. Nose of baked red fruits, tar, earth, vegetables and just hints of floral (very faint) and chocolate scents. Plenty of oak. Some heat and not the best balance, medium plus tannin and high acidity. The wine is compelling but not great. I would also add I did not feel this was past its peak. Approaching maturity at best. I won’t open the next one for at least a few years. Maybe the oak will settle and and the acid will calm down. (92 pts.)
