The Rhys was disappointing - a little too dense and rough. The Domaine Armelle et Bernard Rion was good enough, nice to be drinking Burgundy but nothing to write home about. The Wind Gap was excellent - sleek and stylish.

Bright full ruby color with clarity. A charmer on the nose, leading with pomegranate and plum fruit, black tea, paprika, fresh herbs like thyme and mint, rose hips. Lithe and silky palate with snappy cherry and braised plum, over a depth of spices ranging from vanilla bean to tea to anise. Fine elegance and presence through the palate, with seamless integration of acid and fine tannin, and expansiveness to the finish. Stellar, a very stylish and classy wine. **** -

Dark ruby color. Aromatics of dark cherry & raspberry, sanguine iron notes, saddle leather, hints of mint, worn cedar, allspice berry. Dense and crisp black cherry fruit on the palate, with a core of mineral, earthy florals and rubbed spices. Fleshy middle texture, with mineral high-tones over round tannins. Moderate finish. Medium ruby color. Aromas of pomegranate, hibiscus, earthy spices, pine forest, hints of allspice. Dense and medium bodied, with fig driven fruit and sandalwood, tea and floral spice depth. Dry and rough grainy tannins at first, gaining some volume and roundness with air. Moderate acidity, juicy depth on the finish. Good flavor development, grainy and unyielding structurally at first, recommend a decant. Tough to read the potential. ****
