Domaine d'Auvenay's Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères

Here’s another video from Burgundy, showing d’Auvenay’s Enseignères the other day. This parcel was acquired recently, it used to belong to Domaine Jacques Bavard. It’s contiguous with the Bâtard parcel which came from the same source. As you can see, d’Auvenay is treating very regularly, and these vines look very vigorous and healthy. I guess what they say about the water table in Puligny is true…

I’ll bite, what do they say about the water table in Puligny?

Oh, just that it’s very high (dig a cellar, get a swimming pool). These vines seem very vigorous, with lots of lateral shoots at the top of the canopy. Compare this to the videos from Vosne posted in the 2020 vintage thread and you’ll notice the difference immediately.

William:

I really dig your “show, don’t tell” journalism here.

You may have been on a guided tour, but there’s a hidden camera quality about these posts that I find engrossing. I keep waiting for some functionary to pop out of the bushes and shoo you away!

I love that common people, not just esteemed critics, can walk the rows of the most exalted vineyards in the world.
