QPR delight: 2018 Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel

I literally can’t remember the last time I particularly liked something from the wine aisles of Trader Joe’s, let alone found it as delightful as this bottle. Nonetheless, some folks on the Board have said good things about Cline, so let’s give it a go. With the hot winds of Hades whipping the Central Valley, a simple, no-nonsense Zinfandel seemed like the thing to have with simple grilled food.
According to the winery, 89% Zin, Contra Costa fruit.
While not terribly profound, this one has loads of vibrant fruit and lively character. It has that round, loamy profile that seems a common thread in the better wines from that region. No tannin to speak of. Perhaps a faint touch of oak spice on the back end, but not at all “oaky.”
If you imagine what a really tasty inexpensive Zinfandel should taste like, that’s what this is.
At the price (about $14 if memory serves), this is completely satisfying. Drink now.

Agreed on the Zin and their Viogner (usually $9-11) is a great value as well

Agreed. Puts a smile on my face.

$12 at Total Wines.

Thanks, Nate… been awhile since I bought a Cline Zin. As a member of the NateSimon sheep… I’ll give one a shot and revisit their Viognier.
