WINE ABBREVIATION

I am new to wine and confused by many of the abbreviations used on the blog. I enjoy the reading. Is their any document or site to see what these mean???

Seriously John, just ask when you need clarification. Most people will happily oblige.

most of them are specific wines. LMHB and PLL for example: La Mission Haut Brion and Pichon Lalande. its probably easier to ask about specific ones you’ve run into than to make a list of them all

A glossary of abbreviations would be spiffingly ab-fab. It took me forever to deduce what NSG meant when I was a fledgling. I guess acronyms just aren’t my cuppa.

TL;DR

It would be better if you compiled a list over time and posted them all in a single reply. Some refer to regions, wineries, wine makers, etc. Some common ones:

CdP -Châteauneuf-du-Pape
DRC - Domaine de la Romanee-Conti
Lala, lalala, lalalalalalalalala etc - La Mouline, La Turque and La Landonne by Guigal
GSM - grenache, syrah, mourvedre
VA – Volatile Acidity
QPR – Quality to Price Ratio
RS - Residual sugar
HSS - Hilside Select (Shafer winery)
OWC - original wooden case
BdB - blanc de blancs
BdN - blanc de noirs
NV - napa valley or non vintage, context will make sense which one

NSG- Nuits Saint George
BAMA - Château Bel Air-Marquis d’Aligre

CDR - Côte du Rhône
CCR - Chianti Classico Reserva
LRA - La Rioja Alta
BdM - Brunello di Montalcino

As others mentioned, there are some commonly abbreviated bottlings, such as…
GPL - Grand Puy Lacoste
VCC - Vieux Chateau Certan
BAMA! - Bel Air Marquis d’Aligre
CDC - comtes de champagne (Taittinger)

TCA-Smells like your grandmother’s damp basement
RP-Overrated points
WS-Wine magazine for Beverly Hills Housewives
PdB-Piedmont Does it Better
NV-Expensive, oaky, high alcohol Cabernet
RUDY-Don’t buy your wine here
VV-Vines are older than most people on this board

LB: Lynch Bages

Or Leoville Barton

Or lazy bastard.

It would be nice, on first mention, if the poster actually TYPED IN THE NAME instead of abbreviating. The latter does absolutely no good when using the site’s pathetic, feeble, antiquated search function. (J/K, which stands for juvenile kidding)

The problem with TLAs on WB is the situation is basically FUBAR so I guess that you are SOOL but YMMV.

sorry not helpful I know [cheers.gif]

ITB - In the Business
Bdx - Bordeaux

Also Neal, LB can also mean Left Bank. To further confuse things

And I’m still trying to figure out people’s abbreviations/acronyms for stemware.

Edit. Spelling error

If you’re into Burgundy -

BdM - Bonneau du Martray
