TN: 2017 Attic Salt Wine Company Siteseer

  • 2017 Attic Salt Wine Company Siteseer - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (8/29/2020)
This is the new venture from winemaker Rob DaFoe of cult Cab Tanner-DaFoe fame, and Jason Tulley. Rob was winemaker at Rake and Brick Barn in Santa Ynez as well. A wall of fruit on the nose. At first swirl, a few effervescent notions that then turn into a great and very elegant wine. Great tannins, great and long finish. Still notion of lightness at 14.3%. So well balanced you could tie a string beneath it and it wouldn’t fall either way. 60% Grenache, 24% Syrah, Grenache Blanc 8%, Viognier 4%. Do yourself a favor and get some. (93 pts.)

What is it with salt and wine lately? Salt Attic? Is this like a saltbox? Then there is Salt Vine and the Salted Vine, combining something you never want to touch vineyard land. Weird.

It is derived from an old Greek term that means ‘pointed wit’ . . . at least that’s what my search finds, and that’s what Rob told me about the name.

Cheers.
