RIP Alain Voge

RIP to a true gentleman of Cornas. A friend and I visited the winery in 2006, when we were in the area to ride l’Étape du Tour. Albéric Mazoyer gave us a tour of both the vineyards and the cellar and of course a tasting, but M. Voge also came out to greet us and chat for a bit. As we were preparing to leave, he directed M. Mazoyer to give each of us a half-bottle of the 2003 VV. I still have that bottle, and can’t think of a better night to open it than tonight. RIP, good sir.

Back when I started going to the Marche aux Vins in the late 1990s, he was always one of my favorite producers to visit with and I loved his wines as well. I’m going to drink a 1995 Vieilles Fontaines in his memory this weekend.
