TN: Mercurey Rising...

Tonight we had the 2006 De Villaine, Mercurey, Les Montots. Gorgeous nose of pure cherry fruit, a bit of aged bottle sweetness, but still bright, vibrant and oh so pretty. Accents of earth, tea, five spice, forest floor and mint round it out, but as with all De Villaine wines it’s about purity, fruit, and terroir. If you want big, oaky, Burgundy this isn’t your cup of tea…but it sure is mine. On the palate, it’s beautiful, with bright, aged cherry fruit, some bottle sweetness, with tea, spice, mint, and a gravelly finish. The texture of this wine just caresses the palate, gliding seamlessly from front to rear, especially fine with a grilled hangar steak, but beautiful on its own, too. There’s enough acid and a little tannin to continue improving for at least another 2-4 years, but it’s so delicious now I don’t feel bad drinking my last one. Approx…93-94.

Buy these quite regularly. Opened a '15 last week that was unsurprisingly pretty tight and backward. The '06 sounds like the go!
