TN: 2015 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges

  • 2015 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges (9/15/2020)
Dear God…why did I not buy more. I thought the wines of Henri Gouges took decades to come around, but based on all the positive notes I decided to “risk” opening one. This is a rock-star wine…for just a village level Burgundy I am very impressed. The wine is light in body, there’s a tension on the palate an in the nose. A pale ruby color in the glass, with scents of earth, orange rind, Asian five-spice, and a hint of manure. The palate is lifted and leads with tart red fruits, wild strawberry, cranberry, and under-ripe raspberries. Wow oh wow. I might need to pay more attention to this producer. Outstanding!

Gouges changed style a bit a few years ago. Not so forbidding anymore.

I hope i can find more of this on DISCO…at $38 I should have bought a case.

$38 is a total no-brainer.

I’m a huge Gouges fan: Gouges has always been underrated and it has been on fire in recent vintages. An ‘09 Porrets a couple weeks ago was pure, refined, deep, and super delicious (albeit young).

Yes, well knowing the style now, I’ll not make that mistake again. [cheers.gif]

If you like the style it’s a great value.
