TN: 2006 Schäfer-Fröhlich Schloßböckelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Spätlese

  • 2006 Schäfer-Fröhlich Schloßböckelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Nahe (8/24/2020)
    After the first corked bottle.
Ripe orchard fruit, honeyed florals and red soil on the nose. It is ripe and broad on the palate with enough acidity to carry it well. More honeyed fruit orchard bordering tropical on the palate, It shows the forwardness of the vintage, but does so well without heaviness. It has a good sense of its red soil, and good minerality, very well balanced RS and acid. It’s a bit lusher than my ideal spatlese, coming across as more of Auslese weight. Nonetheless, this has a degree of clarity, depth, and focus that is admirable. Finishes long. Showing youthfully very well right now.

FWIW, a terrific pairing with carnitas (Unsolicited opinion: I find fruity red slate and porphyritic riesling to be a great pairing with carnitas). (91 pts.)
