2020 VDP Grosser Ring Auction Thread

Good morning everyone!

Since several of us are up early this morning watching on YouTube, thought I’d get this started.

Starting with the GGs…

Missed the first couple von Othegraven bids.

1.5L magnums of 2019 Von Schubert Herrenberg GG went for 99 EUR.

Greetings Brian and all,

Fun watching the process live in this manner. There is not much overlap in this vs last year’s list of GGs, plus the quantities last year were much smaller it being the first time GGs had come to the Auction. And so comparatives are difficult, but for reference the bid of 99 Euros for Grunhauser is about 10% down from last year’s hammer of approximately 110 Euros (I say approximately because I am backing out VAT to get to last year’s hammer.)

Haag GG 750s just went for 100 Euros, and the magnums are already up to 190 Euros…

And I should note WineBerserkers is more than well represented in the YouTube chat room, so plenty of opportunity for our fame or infamy to increase :stuck_out_tongue:

Then tack on all the fees and tariffs, and the prices make no sense to me.

Loosen’s 2012 double mag

Glad I got that one.

2019 Haag GG 1.5L ended at 225 Euro.

Last GG listing - one of the auction’s “rarities” - was a single 3L bottle of 2012 Dr. Loosen Erdener Pralat Reserve GG for 3,820 Euros. The sole 3 liter sold last year of the 2011 vintage hammered for approximately 2,910 Euros.

And now we are on to the Pradikats…

The ceremonial disinfecting of the gavel was a chuckle.

First lots of the pradikats, 2019 von Hovel Scharzhofberger Kabinett and Hörecker Spatlese.

Who is the guy in the track suit?

Up next is the Zilliken lots. Will post the screenshots after all the wines have been bid on.

Somebody call the grammar police.

Yeah yeah, I’m trying to juggle a few things at a time here lol

The Zilliken lots.

I missed the 375 mL bottle lot of the auslese, but it went for 38 EUR (96 bottles).

In last year’s sale, Zilliken brought a Spatlese, Auslese and LGK Auslese. As Brian reports, only an Auslese this year. This 2019 at 66 Euros, with 180 bottles offered, is down from the 70 Euros achieved last year for 240 bottles of the same wine.

I lusted after that 1980 eiswein

Looks like I’m the proud owner of a couple halves of Zilliken… I sort of threw in what I thought was a low-ball. I really hope I don’t win everything I put a bid in for…

Wow, a 6.0L of German wine must be three feet tall!

Burgundy shape. Unfortunately.
