WE: Sophia Bennett on Straw Wines

A fairly interesting article in WineEnthusiast on Straw Wines:

It’s a genre I wish they’d explore more in Calif. It’s rather labor intensive so the wines can be expensive. Some of the best ones are made at Tablas Creek and they are exceptional. I’d love to taste one of their older versions.
One technique she does not mention was described to me by DanPetroski. Instead of harvesting and placing on straw mats or racks, you simply clip the canes to stop the flow of nutrients and let them raisin in place on the vine and then harvest later. Of course, the weather must cooperate.
