Eerily quiet overnight and this morning. And now we have a little something going on - 2 to 3 acres at Oakville Grade and Dry Creek Road. Air support on its way, hope they knock that one down quickly.
I know that Carole Meredith posted on Facebook that she was concerned that with the wind change it would move the fire towards them. Hopefully this isn’t the start of that. That intersection is only a few miles from them.

When I originally heard the location of the fire being where the “the pinch” in the valley is I immediately knew Hourglass was in trouble as that is how they came up with the name. The shape of the valley and their being right in the middle.
The original Hourglass vineyard is just North of Lodi Lane in St. Helena but the Blueline Vineyard, where the winery is located, is the property just North of Calistoga Ranch. Calistoga Ranch and the Blueline property were severely damaged.
Yes. Adjacent to Duckhorn correct? Not far from Mending Wall and a few others that were in fear of fire damage, I thought.
Duckhorn is adjacent to The Silverado Trail and the original Hourglass vineyard is closer to Highway 29, but I don't think Lodi Lane is more than a mile long, if that.

Steve - yes I saw her posts also. Carole knows her stuff and has seen a lot in this valley. When she posts concern I always pay extra attention. Right now the wind hasn't really changed direction or increased (yet) so not sure what caused this one. They just closed Oakville Grade Rd to get more equipment and personnel up there and seem to be on top of this.

AQI in my part of Napa (SW side on edge of Carneros) is right now 381. It’s like standing next to a campfire outside. Even my dog is refusing to go out.

They announced 5% containment this morning.

Skipping my usual wine purchases this year thanks to the layoff but ordered some of Emily’s Rose to share with others (so I can keep my happy half bottle stock for myself). Love her wines and she’s great!

Thanks for coordinating this right away Todd!

You need to use the dropdown and do the LRAPA conversion if you want to compare PurpleAir's numbers to others.

“We have fire that is creating a threat to Calistoga,” said Cal Fire Operations Chief Mark Bruton Thursday. “It has not reached the city limits yet, still on the outskirts of the city limits, it is a concern for us.”

New mandatory evacuations were ordered in Napa County for:

All areas of Napa County north of the Calistoga City limits between Highway 128, the Sonoma County line, and Highway 29.
All addresses on both sides of Highway 29 between the Calistoga City limits and the Lake County line
All addresses on Old Lawley Toll Road
Areas west of Oakville, specifically the area south of South Whitehall Lane and north of Bella Oaks Lane, west to the Sonoma County line including the 500 Block and greater of Wall Road.
Evacuation warning were issued for:

The area south of Bella Oaks Lane west to the Sonoma County Line and north of Oakville Grade/Dry Creek Road; West of Highway 29, up to the 500 block of Wall Road
The valley floor, west of Highway 29 between Whitehall Lane and Oakville Grade, including all addresses on Bella Oaks Lane, Manley Lane, Beerstecher Road, and Niebaum Lane
Evacuation centers are open at Crosswalk Community Church, 2590 First Street in Napa and Napa Valley College at 2277 Napa Vallejo Highway in Napa.

In the next day or two we will surpass 4,000,000 acres burned in CA so far in 2020 and the worst part of Fire season isn’t here yet.

The previous high year was 1,500,000 acres. Let that sink in for a minute

has anyone heard from Jennifer Lamb?
I've been sitting on this for a few days, until she gave me approval, but I can now tell you that she lost her house, all the wine in her cellar, most of her family pictures and her 40 jars of homemade jam. She got out with just a few personal items and the dogs. I've talked with her and she is in an optimistic mood about the future and is grateful that HL vineyard survived. Her spirits are much higher than mine would be in that situation. She knows what's important in life! BTW, she is also looking for a rental in the valley, but wants one that is not in town. She is still a country gal.

has anyone heard from Jennifer Lamb?
I've been sitting on this for a few days, until she gave me approval, but I can now tell you that she lost her house, all the wine in her cellar, most of her family pictures and her 40 jars of homemade jam. She got out with just a few personal items and the dogs. I've talked with her and she is in an optimistic mood about the future and is grateful that HL vineyard survived. Her spirits are much higher than mine would be in that situation. She knows what's important in life! BTW, she is also looking for a rental in the valley, but wants one that is not in town. She is still a country gal.

This breaks my heart. I remember sitting with her and a group of us on her balcony tasting their wines. She had picked fresh blackberries, gone to the store for cheese and had a beautiful spread waiting for us when we arrived. There were 8 of us and after 2 hours of tasting and playing ball with the Labs, she invited us to stay for dinner saying she would call Herb up and have him pick up a couple of Tri-Tips. We couldn’t stay, but were very touched by her graciousness.

Our conversations ranged from her growing up in Pasadena to life in Napa, to her wonderful dogs. To this day, our group of friends still talk about what a wonderful visit that was. I am just so sad.

Here's the link to help out Emily Richer and Virage vineyards - viewtopic.php?f=7&t=173649
Link takes me to Wine.com to buy Caymus FYI.
Go to Commerce Corner and look for the Virage offer.

My heart goes out to all of them. Lisa, Francois, Les are great folks. Never had the oppty to share a glass with Jennifer but so many stories from folks ITB who have had the oppty to visit.

I wish I had older bottles of HL Cabernet I could donate to Jennifer but if there is any effort to help rebuild a cellar please reach out or post.

Wow, Roy... thanks for sharing that. That is such tragic.
I sat with her at Lars' & Molly Hill's wedding and you couldn't meet a more charming lady in the World.

Yeah, Jennifer as well as Behrens (and by extention, Drinkward Peschon)... are the losses I feel most personally, of those I know about, so far.

This is distressing... 10 min ago from a fire chaser up on Howell Mtn...
That is terrible news. Someone from O'Shaughnessy had posted just yesterday that a skeleton crew of employees and friends - with help from Cal Fire crews when they could - had saved the winery. I do hope they make it through.

Had an update from my neighbor. Our propeties are ok for now - the fire was held to the east side of Pickett Road except for Kenefick ranch house, which is burning. This is probably 1/2 mile from my property. Eisele IS on the east side, but I don't have any update on them. This has been a day of increasing anxiety. Let's see what the next couple of days bring. My nerves are shot, but am trying to keep the perspective that I lost in 2017 fires. Not easy.

Really tough to hear about how bad this is.
Back to scrolling through the posts on the fires and have to say that earlier I looked in one of the wine fridges and saw a lone bottle of Kenefick Ranch Cab.
I almost pulled it out.
Now I read this and I shudder to see what the posts beyond this one bring.

So very Sorry to hear about all this!

Thoughts and prayers with everyone out that way.

So sorry to hear about all of the hardship facing my wine friends and in particular Jennifer Lamb. I remember how picturesque her house was/is. A little over 9 years ago I planned a trip to Napa for my 50th birthday along with a dozen of my friends. One event I planned was a Berserker meet and greet at Envy Cellars, which Mike Smith and Mark Carter opened up for about 50-60 of us.

I met Merrill at that event, and also Jennifer Lamb and other WB members. As the event was winding down, Jennifer invited about 30 people back to her house. Herb manned the grill and grilled sausages while telling us stories of his youth, and Jennifer, the quintessential host, raided her cellar, and opened up some HL Cellars to compare to 100 point Shafer HS. The HL was superior in every way (If I recall correctly they were either 2001 or 2002 vintage and this was in 2011).

I am so sorry to hear Jennifer and her "two dogs" are homeless and hope we can set up some kind of event to also help her out.

I saw Jennifer Lamb approximately 2 weeks ago while she was watching the HL Vineyard grapes arriving at the new Rivers Marie facility. Her smile and warmth were ever present. My heart goes out to such a wondetful person.

For those of you, like me, that don't know your Napa geography this is basically due east from Calistoga near Pope Valley off Howell Mtn Road.

Crap!

As for air quality, this is in Napa proper at AQI of 157...

5B0C7DDF-D616-4C4E-9AD5-51CAAB08D6BE.jpeg

St Helena is checking in at an AQI of...

4D3B0A3D-6C1F-4361-B7E5-5F87AED8E26D.png

[swoon.gif]

Breathing in Napa made me feel ill and I had a mask on the entire time. Hoping people stay indoors up valley.
AQI in my part of Napa (SW side on edge of Carneros) is right now 381. It’s like standing next to a campfire outside. Even my dog is refusing to go out.

They announced 5% containment this morning.
What source are you using? My photo was from 29 heading for 121 S of Imola and they said 157. Cathy Corison just listed an AQI over 700 in St Helena.
When we evacuated St Helena on Wednesday it was clocking in at over 800. Visibility was about 1/4 mile, maybe. My part of Santa Rosa is around 250 right now. These are purple air data, which can be pretty variable from site to site, so I generally don’t put too much stock in the numbers unless I’m getting similar readings from multiple sensors in a tight area (as with those numbers listed above).
