Aack! Shipment notices have started

#1 Post by Jay Miller » October 9th, 2020, 6:06 am

Just 3 days ago I added up all the wine due to be shipped and came up with a depressing number.

To make matters worse the first shipment notice which arrived today (from Benchmark) was from an order that I had forgotten about and wasn't on my list.

Back in January I had a firm resolve that my only purchase for the year would be a case of 2008 Comtes de Champagne.

Please make me feel better by telling me I'm not the only one.

The next three weeks will see an avalanche of wine arriving at Schloss Bueker. I can only hope the two cases of Champagne and nine bottles of Ultramarine that come later will blunt my wife’s wrath.

If it makes you feel better, I had a vendor ask if my storage facility had a loading dock since it would be much cheaper to palletize my pending deliveries from them.

I probably spent more on 2018-19 this year than I have for any vintage any year in the past.
My project and budget for the coming year is new active storage because I’m probably 20 cases short on climate controlled storage at home.

CT says I have 384 pending delivery. My only solace is that some of that is 2019 BDX EP and that deliveries that are arriving this fall are going directly to the offsite

No worries Jay, this isn't a competition.

Though if someone has more bottles pending than me, please one up me so I can feel a bit better about myself and rationalise all of this away

But Jay, so long as it’s good wine, that’s a great feeling. :)

I’m getting a few cases from benchmark in a few weeks too, and am looking forward to finding out what’s in them. (I mean, I generally know, but I don’t recall what couple random bottles I may have purchased in March!)

I believe my pending total is around 138 bottles, 141 after I ordered a 3 pack earlier this week. There's going to be a lot of hours sorting, putting away and backshifting in my locker. I'll probably wait until the bulk of my wine is delivered before backshifting however

I had to add mine up the other day. I am a young-ish collector and just got my cellar in order last fall...so went big this year. I have 20 cases coming but 7-8 of those are 2019 Bdx E.P. The #4 comment by Mike Evans had me laughing pretty good. Enjoy the new treasures!

I refuse to count what I have coming. A few more weeks of ignorant bliss.

But it is WAY too early to schedule shipping from the west coast for me. Not paying overnight, and temps along the way are still in the 90s. Mid-90s in LA this week, eg. But your post reminds me that I have to contact a few NY sources about shipping

I think I've got 110+ bottles coming, starting next week, mostly 2018 cab. Carter, Myriad, Quivet, Bevan, Realm, William and Mary, as well as some Carlisle too. I did get sucked into 4 cases of de Negoce and Becheur from the threads, so at least I'll have some I can PnP without much care.

I'll probably stop at Costco for a few more bottles of 2008 Dom, as it's still on shelves for the holidays.

I warned my wife yesterday when the first wines showed up at the house that she can be expecting a lot more shipments in the next few weeks. Modest comparatively, but it’s somewhere around 5 cases worth.

Oddly enough it doesn’t matters if it’s 1 bottle or a case, my wife only cares about total parcels incoming. So I always make sure to fill out a case when I have a partial on an order.

Not as heavy a hitter as some of you, but as a newer collector / aficionado I out-kicked my coverage...”only” 87 bottles pending (make that 90, forgot ashes & diamonds). 30 of these are Bedrock’s and then I went way overboard on Napa cabs this fall. I regret nothing, save getting the 166 bottle and not the 300 bottle wine fridge last year.

Just shy of 200 bottles to be shipped. Probably the only good thing about working from home in the middle of this insanity. My wife doesn't have to wait home for 6-8 hr blocks for these deliveries.

This is the most wonderful time of the year when shipping commences and all of my frenzied buying over the past 6+ months arrives at the doorstep. Looks like ~421 bottles from all over the place should be coming in the next 3-4 weeks. Not sure why some of you are bemoaning this!

Now that the kid is away at college, turn his bedroom into a wine cellar and you can clear up the basement overflow.

Wow, I feel like a veritable tyro among the titans! Counting the case I ordered yesterday from Bucklin, we have “only” six cases on the way or already arrived. Fortunately we have some room in the cellar, as we’ve been drinking mostly from inventory for the last 6 months. Due to fewer Costco trips our impulse purchasing of everyday drinking bottles has gone way down. Mr. M has made a couple of small WTSO orders, but not much.

An appropriate amount of bubbly for the holiday season
Jules was not impressed, but now that we’ve been popping corks almost every night.... she’s coming around. She still wants the basement back to normal, but I bought some time at least.

Now that the kid is away at college, turn his bedroom into a wine cellar and you can clear up the basement overflow.
I like how you think!

About 10 cases, but it's all coming to my local UPS store. They receive it and I come by and pick it up at my convenience. Then I sneak it into the basement when my wife is sleeping. I got a box so I would have a "business" address to receive wine and no one would have to wait for packages to be delivered at home. The ability to hide my deliveries is a bonus.

I contacted a couple of retailers to ship this week. 13 boxes showed up on Monday. [swoon.gif]

Good thing I held back the bulk for later...

My shipments may be more modest than some others this year, but regardless I have far less stress because Covid means I'm working from home, making it much easier not to miss a FedEX/UPS delivery. Oh how I hated the stress of hoping I'd be home in time, or having to redirect to a fedex office and pick up . . .

After mentioning to my wife we could start ignoring some of the discounted offers we’ve been receiving. Then a Hanzell Chard offer pops up on Last Bottle. Bit for 3. Then a Jeff Cohn offer arrives for buy 6 or 12 and get another 6 or 12 free, half off. Covers almost all Jeff’s wines.

He must have trouble selling through the 2016s. The same wines for sale now are the same ones for sale when we visited 2 years ago. Love them all but can’t buy them all.

Only 6 bottles on the pending list this fall.
I’ve been soooo good.

No worries Jay, this isn't a competition.

Though if someone has more bottles pending than me, please one up me so I can feel a bit better about myself and rationalise all of this away
I am in 4 digits pending, if it makes you feel better. Thats excluding my de negoce.

Whats particularly terrifying for me is retailers have been receiving their 2018 BDX EPs that are >14%Abv . I was assuming all those were coming in oct 2021 so i may have to get yet another offsite locker already. Yikes.

Damn. At that point you’re counting deliveries by the pallet instead of by the case.

Somehow I keep on receiving cases and cases of wine, but my pending number stays the same…. [help.gif]

Yes the flood is coming. Fun and terrifying, all at once.

Thank goodness for CT. Quite a few times my records of purchases have been more accurate than my retailers’. Kind of embarrassing to send an ‘excuse me but did you overlook those 6 bottles of XX purchased March 3rd?’ or some such.
