Who In The World Is Victor Fagon?

From what I understand it’s a micro label of Maison Bertrand Ambroise. Can anyone tell me anything more?

Surprised this is the only thread on the board on this producer. And sadly, no responses. :frowning:

Perhaps you can enlighten us? I am unfamiliar with the name.

French Steely Dan?

Seems there were some problems with the importer of Ambroise to the USA, so they created a new label to get a new importer:

Read their description of the pinots they carry from him. In disclaiming that they sound like California Cabs but aren’t, it strikes me as odd that they didn’t say they’re also not California Pinots. Because, aside from the minerality notes that I find hit-or-miss in CA, that’s what they sound like:

“Bertrand Ambroise’s are not wines for the faint-hearted. The reds are neither fined nor filtered and are matured in barriques of which 75-100% are new. They are opaque in colour and on the palate are full-bodied and intense with copious amounts of chewy black fruits. His Nuits Saint Georges is enormously concentrated.” – Jasper Morris, MW.

Seems like a fair description of Ambroise’s wines to me.

Vanilla and bananas in a while that resembles Meursault?

Me thinks that Jasper is not a fan of these wines.

They sound disgusting.

Beat me to it. Hey they are going on tour again. Maybe drink some of this wine if you can sneak it in somehow. Maybe corkage fee at the concert? [wow.gif]

The wines do sound like a royal scam.
