TN: 2000 Isole e Olena Cepparello IGT

Decanted for 1 hour and served with a beef stew. Killer pairing!

Light crimson in color with some bricking at the edge of the glass. 13.5% ABV. Fantastic nose of red fruits, menthol, wet asphalt and leather. Medium body with medium acidity. Well balanced with ample sweet fruits. Dried cherries, anise, tobacco and iron on the palate. Medium length on the finish. Awesome Cepparello that is absolutely delightful at twenty years of age. Best over the next several years.

My rating: 94 points.

Love the Cepparello and still good QPR. Thanks for the note.

I’ve only had Cepparello young (like a 2015 and 2016 in the last year), and it was surprisingly very good, and not really immature, overly primary, tannic, or any of the things you might expect from a long-aging red in its youth.

I’d love to taste a mature one — I guess something to put on my list to search out one of these times.

Fell in love with this wine when Mauro at Assaggio poured us a 1998…and then a second bottle of 1998.
