TN: 2001 Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Decanted for two hours.

Crimson in color. 13.6% ABV. Show-stopping nose of red fruits, tobacco, cigar box and graphite. Compelling power and structure. Stunning fruits and ample acidity adequately balance the ever present tannins. Black currants, cassis, plums and earth on the palate. The finish is exceptionally long with silky tannins. Dunn always ages well and this wine is no exception. Best over the next 4-6 years.

My rating: 94 points.

Sounds lovely Love the ABV, keeping it under 14% even as all those around him were probably in the 15s and 16s by 2001.

Dunn is very open to RO’ing wine to keep alcohols lower even if fruit was picked ripe. This probably started much higher.

Love this winery, thank you for the note!

Here is a rare factoid on Dunn, there was a tiny quantity of 1978 Howell Mtn Cab made, but it was never released.

The Napa Valley Cab was sourced from the same vineyard which also supplied grapes to Phelps for Insignia, Pahlmeyer, Viader, Merus, Newton and Patz and Hall.
